Auguste de Chateauneuf (Sorry for the delay)
Journals of Auguste was a hit!
And I would like to thank you for all the appreciation it has gotten. It gained much more traction than I imagined it would (some 150+ reads in only three or four days. It’s a big deal for me, as of now :)), and that has made me very happy and motivated to develop the story.
But it’s been a couple weeks since I finished writing the second part, and since then there hasn’t been any update on issue #3. I apologize for the delay, and I assure you that I have no intention of quitting this little project. Or preuojequetx, as the French might call it. Why are they so extra? Eludes me. Anyway, here’s the thing-
When I wrote the first two issues, I didn’t have an overarching goal in mind. I had some vague ideas, which I am not at liberty to discuss, and the framework was..is robust, for it is based on actual history of the Napoleonic Wars. But apart from that, it was all a blur. Perhaps not even that. Both issues were very spontaneous, and I didn’t think much on how I’d like the story, Auguste’s story, to develop. But I can’t continue down this road any longer. The reason is-
Auguste is my creation. He is the embodiment of my own fantasy, to some extent, and I cannot ruin his story with careless, spontaneous writing. It has to be planned even if a little. And more importantly,
If it is to be a story, it has to have the elements of a story. It has to have an interesting protagnist (we’re not lacking there, are we?), an overarching goal, a mission, and obstacles, conflicts, character developments. As of now, we have none of that. And for a while now, I’m just brainstorming and researching these things. Why am I telling you this?
Well, I didn’t plan to. Not at first.
I intended to give you the finished project directly. But then I changed my mind.
With all the interest you have shown, I figured you would want to be informed about the status of this project. And that is all this is, an info letter, of what is going on behind the scenes, in the author’s (wow, did you really just call yourself that?) mind.
I also thought perhaps you’d find it interesting to know how a story is developed, or what challenges and roadblocks the author faces (again, really?).
I am writing this today because I think I just got an idea of how to take the story ahead. It might be nothing, or it might be something. But in case it’s the former, at least you’ll have this, and you’ll know that I am working on it, diligently.
Once again, thank you for your support.
Auguste will see you soon.
P.S.
If even after all this ranting I manage to fuck up the story, it would be peak comedy.
